       "Communication Skills for Leaders"

  You will understand the importance of interpersonal skills in being a

  leader, discover how to convey believability by keeping verbal, vocal, and

  visual communications consistent, and be introduced to the nine

  behavioral skills of interpersonal communication.

        This session promises to engage you and educate you and maybe even tickle

        your funny-bone!


Learning Objectives:

1.  List at least one key interpersonal skill used by successful leaders.   

2.  Discover how to convey believability by keeping verbal, vocual, and visual communications consistent.   

3.   List at least three of the nine behavioral skills of interpersonal communication.

Valerie Taylor; Senior Instructor

New Horizons of East Tennessee


   Valerie Taylor is a Business Skills and Applications Instructor at New Horizons of East Tennessee. She is the #1 ranked Instructor in North America for all of New Horizons worldwide.  Valerie began working for New Horizons Computer Learning Center in July 2012 as a Business Skills and Applications Instructor. She teaches a wide assortment of business skills classes including Leadership & Influence, Communication Skills for Leaders, Effective Time Management, Excellent Customer Service and Emotional Intelligence. Additionally, she is a designated Microsoft Office Specialist Master and a Microsoft Certified Trainer. Applications classes she teaches include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook, as well as Office 365, Teams, Power BI, MS Project, and Adobe Acrobat.  In 2008, Valerie launched her own health-based coaching practice, as The Feel Better Coach.  She is a certified life coach with specialties in wellness and purpose coaching.  She completed workshops in inspirational speaking and workshop presentation.  This umbrella company provided a variety of services, both for individuals and groups.  As a solo-preneur, Valerie was responsible for website development, email and network marketing, blogging, social media, and public speaking engagements.  In 2006, she accepted a position as VP of Business Development for Benchmark Leadership Training and conducted numerous Management and Leadership seminars on over 48 different business skills.  While raising her children, Valerie honed her professional training and teaching skills in a variety of ways.  She conducted defensive driving classes, taught cooking classes live on local and national television, lead exercise classes and provided personal fitness training.

   Valerie is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, with a Bachelor of Science:  Business Administration/Marketing degree. Early in her career she worked for several Fortune 500 companies in sales and training.  During her tenure with Dun & Bradstreet she was responsible for introduction to and training on computer-based data in the workplace.  At Directions Associates, she specialized in team building seminars.

   Valerie served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Talent Development in 2017 and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Meaningful Life Center, where she also develops and conducts workshops including Passion, Purpose, Play and Connect, Connecting, Connected. She is a member of the East Tennessee Chapters of the Society for Human Resource Management.
