What better way to start 2019 than with the ever motivating Eric Benson! Eric Benson, OD and Training Consultant at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, presented A Leader's Role in Motivating Others. A packed house enjoyed Eric's presentation!

"Remote" Meeting an Overwhelming Success!
The May 2017 ATD Smoky Mountain Chapter Meeting was presented virtually by Jeanie Sanders with New Horizons! A packed house learned about the trials and tribulations of blended classrooms and how to more effectively utilize remote classrooms.

ATD Smoky Mountain Chapter Meetings are HOT HOT HOT in 2017! In January, Elena Course covered Engaging the Modern Learner, Dr. Chuck Carringer inspired us with his Creating a Coaching Environment presentation in February, Lisa Scott taught us how Beer and Bounced Checks affect effective training design in March, and Mark Schaefer showed us how to be Known in April!

Tusculum College Receives Scholarship Check
2014 Chapter President, Joseph Bunch, presents the annual scholarship check to Michelle Arbogast, Associate Director of Foundation and Donor Relations, Tusculum College. The $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Tusculum College graduate student, majoring in Human Resources Development.
First Ever Trainer Throw-Down is a Smashing Success to Close Out 2014
Five contestants vied for a $100 grand prize cash prize during the Chapter's first Trainer Throw-Down. The topic was"CHANGE," and everyone showed their training "chops" as they engaged the audience. Pictured, winner Linda Blocksom, receiving her prize.
Scholarship Funds Delivered During February 2014 Meeting

New Location Kicks Off January 2014 Meeting
Rothchild's Catering and Conference Center is the new location for the monthly Chapter meetings. In January, T. Joseph Lynch, III, an attorney at Wimberly-Lawson Wright Daves & Jones PLLC, in Knoxville, presented on the legal matters every training organization and professional may face in today’s employment environment. Chapter members networked before the session (top left), members of the Board mingled as well (President Elect, Cindy Light, pictured bottom left), and Eric Benson (right) was recognized for being the most active on social media during January.
Wild Apricot Learning Session, November 2013
The Communications and Technology Committee met for a training session on the functions of Wild Apricot, the platform used to maintain this website. The three-part series will continue with sessions on creating and editing events in Wild Apricot in December, followed by using social media networking shortcuts and tools in January. Volunteers with an interest in communicating with the Chapter membership via our social networking channels or website are welcome to join this committee.
Prime Time Oak Ridge; Chamber of Commerce Event, November 2013 Fall was in the air, but that didn't stop the crowds from participating in an Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce signature event: the Prime Time Tailgate Party, on October 24! Several visitors stopped by our information booth for a chance to win a door prize and pick up informative literature about the chapter.

Communications and Technology Committee, October 2013
This committee meets monthly to plan social media and communications strategies. The group meets the last Fridays of the month, at lunch time, at various locations. Volunteers with an interest in communicating with the Chapter membership via our social networking channels or website are welcome to join us!
National Recognition, Chapter of the Month, September 2013
Board members of the ASTD Smoky Mountain Chapter worked effortlessly to submit a proposal to ASTD National for the Sharing Our Success Program. The Board was recognized with the honor of Chapter of the Month and a $500 cash award.
Site Visit to Regal Entertainment Group, July 2013
Members and guests of the ASTD Smoky Mountain Chapter enjoyed a site visit to the training facilities at Regal Entertainment Group during the July Chapter meeting. In addition to complimentary concessions, participants learned about Regal's training philosophy and terminology used to motivate their cast members (i.e., employees).
Coach Yvonne Hart Leads the June 2013 Chapter Meeting
Yvonne Hart is a Performance Coach and owner of A Focused Purpose, helping professionals lead lives of purpose. She demonstrated the ASTD CPLP coaching steps during the June monthly meeting.
Career Planning at Virginia College, June 2013
ASTD Chapter members conducted mock interviews for upcoming graduates of Virginia College to help them prepare for the interview process during future job searches. Students of the first graduating class of the North Broadway Knoxville campus are due to graduate in June or September 2013 with diplomas in Medical Assisting or Medical Billing and Coding. Career Planning Instructor, Allison Miller, welcomes ASTD Smoky Mountain Chapter members, Rita Thomas, Gary Peachtree, and Bryon Ownby.
