A Leader's Role in Motivating Others

Presented By: Eric M. Benson

OD and Training Consultant, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Networking and lunch: 11:30am

Program: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

If a leader is responsible for performance and motivation is correlated to performance, is a leader responsible for motivation? Motivation is rooted in the psyche. And its roots stretch deep into the conscious and unconscious realms of our mind.

Understanding the source of motivation and how it impacts performance is beneficial for people at every level of an organization and essential for its leaders, managers, and supervisors.

This presentation will address the basic questions surrounding the concept of motivation and explore how we can harness its power for ourselves and those we work with. Using Susan Fowler’s book, Why Motivating People Doesn’t Work…and What Does, we’ll learn alternative, healthier approaches for accessing and maintaining motivation over time.

SPEAKER BIO:

For over 30 years, Eric Benson has provided individual and organizational solutions to senior leaders, mid-level managers, supervisors, and front-line staff. He has done this while serving in the U.S. Air Force, leading his own training company, and since joining Oak Ridge National Laboratory last February as a member of their Employee & Organizational Development Group.

As a trainer, facilitator, speaker, and coach with over 1,300 presentations to date, he’s seen the high performers and the low performers, the motivated and the unmotivated, as well as the happy and the unhappy. After working with people across the range of industry and position, Eric is convinced that people possess a vast reservoir of untapped capacity. His message today will offer us an approach to tapping more of that capacity in ourselves and others.

Networking and lunch will be available starting at 11:30am, and the program begins promptly at 12:00pm. Let us know of any dietary restrictions upon check-in at the registration desk.

Cancellation requests/refunds will be honored within 48 hours notice if paid in advance. Payment will be due for no-shows.
